Today I got everything out of my training. 3+ minute PR. Weather was damn close to perfect. There was an annoying 10-12 mph NNW wind that made some sections difficult. I took one Hammer gel pre-race, and then 9 during the race. No significant GI issues. It was evident again, that I need all of it that I can stomach. By 2/3 of the way through race I was taking them every 2.5 miles. I noticed a significant improvement in feel and pace within about 5 minutes of finishing one.

I had some light cramping in my calves at 20. It became progressively worse as the race progressed. By 24 I was doing everything I could to keep my right calf from completely locking. I took 2 Hammer Endurolytes at 13. I should have carried more and taken a couple more at 20.

My hip flexors and groins have been sore again all week. I think I have some muscle imbalances. My abdominal muscles, quads, and hamstrings are strong, I need to do more lower core work. I was very surprised that they held up for the duration.

In the end, I think I was in better shape in the fall of 2015 but botched the taper and race. It's always tough to argue with a PR though. Nice to get that monkey off my back... it's been a while.
