Notes

I took some electrolytes and 7 gels. I carried a handheld. We were on pace through 16 when I first started to feel my calves cramp. By 18 they were both locking up. By 20 my hamstrings, groins, and even my forearms were locking up. We stopped for a few minutes at the aid station around 20. I had two cups of pickles and pickle juice and a lot of gatorade. By 22 I was felling much better and able to run a lot more. The rest of the run from there definitely went better.

Garmin said almost exactly 13 for the first half in 2:01. It got all screwed up the second half of the race and ended up giving me 25.3. So while I certainly did fall of pace, it's not as bad as the splits suggest. This is the same 25k loop the winter run uses minus the 2 mile loop NE of the Deep Lake camp. There's no doubt that it's more like 27.

It's a nice course and workout, and Perrin beer afterward is always nice. But much like the Boston race, I have no business trying to run fast for more that 2 hours in anything over 50 degrees. The other guys we ran with through 17 all said the same thing, "I was worried about you and how much you were sweating".
