MHRRC Turkey Trot 2008 @ Arlington H.S.
cold day, but ran well.
big uphill on 1st mile, took it too hard and died near top. able to recover though. so much for a relaxed start
mile 2 a bit of recovery after going too hard at start, enough to stay on pace.
3rd mile starting to buckledown, hit the turnaround point at 17:10, right where I wanted to be, though feeling a little more tired than I had planned, ran into a runner still going the other direction as i fought for a tangent, oops.
4th mile feeling tired on the uphills and also some time in no man's land, a guy came up from behind and able to stick with him for awhile
5th mile back to no man's land. lots of people randomly walking all over the road. not a real problem but a mental distraction. i was maintaining when i should have been kicking. last curve saw the clock 33:52, kicked it in as hard as I could. officials clocked me at 34:00.18, but since I didn't get to start at the front I went with my watch which I started just before I crossed the start line. in any event, i'm sure I got 0.18. really wish I had done enough to get sub 34 in the official results though.
random highlights. beat the old guys that have beaten me in past races. got a free hat. broke last years time by 4:44. didn't bonk at finish though wish i kicked a step sooner! made the first page of results.
