Notes
Locust Grove 5k. This race was a week earlier than I thought, so really didn't feel ready trainingwise, but a nice way to get a pre-season measure of starting point. Original plan was to go out around 8:00 pace, then crank it up on return. But course started downhill and finished uphill, so adjusted plans. Hit mile 1 much faster than i thought possible, but felt okay so held pace even when the group i was with fell off. pretty wiped when i hit the big uphill finish but cranked through it kept up with the young kid in front of me, kicked it up at the crest to the finish (btw 1/4-1/2 mile) passed him and held off anyone else who was back there. 2nd in age group, so I won some flowers for Emily. then there was a little picnic on the lawn for all the runners and fans. solid date night. ridiculous i was 2nd in age group with that time, but i'll take the flowers. winner was around 17 flat. Anyways main goal was to break 8 min pace (24:48), so quite pleased with 23:06 (7:28) at this stage of the game.
