went out WAY too fast in the beginning, considering the heat. My average speed through the first half was just under 21 mph (as opposed to B2B, where I started slower and then hammered the last 10 or so miles to finish just over 21mph). Heart rate was especially high the first hour or so - high 160s to low 170s. Was passing a LOT of bikers - not only in the aqua-velo / relay wave, but also waves that started 8 and 16 minutes ahead of me.

Heat, going out too fast, and the winds on the second half of the course caught up to me. There were some stretches where I was only going around 14 - 15 mph. The good news is that the heat and wind must have caught up to everyone, as I wasn't passed that much, even as I was slowing down. Had a nice "kick" the last 2 miles or so, though - got back up to low 20s territory.

Was also harder for me to take in nutrition in the heat. Had to force down 2 GUs (at the 1 hour and 2 hour mark). So nutrition was pretty much my Gatorade / Carbo-pro mix.

Went with my Nation's Tri / "aero" set-up on the bike.
