Ok, best racing experience of my life to this day. I started off the race in front of ben, but after a half mile or so he flew by me and i tried to stay with him, but i knew he was going out much faster than i wanted to, so i let him get a bit away. Right before the mile mark (literally, like 7 steps away) bill passed me and encouraged me to pick it up, so i did for a little while, and eventually he got away too. Basicly, the next 2 miles are a blur. I stayed in the same place on my team, with ben kevin and jimmy (and i thought kenny too) in front of me. The second mile took forever to get to, and the third came really quick. So now I'm at the 1.8 mile straightaway to the finish. I looked up and noticed Kevin like 10 meters in front of me. I said "holy crap, i could beat him today!" so i caught up and within another minute he was behind me. 5th place on the team now. Then there was ben. I told myself i had to catch him; I had to beat him today. So I picked it up again and got closer and closer. Around the 4 mile point, I had passed ben. 4th place on the team now (btw these places are all assuming that steve had been there and been in front of me). So now it was 1 mile to go, and i was in 4th for the team. My plan was to accelerate in the last mile about every quarter of a mile, and try to get the same time in my last mile as i did for my first. So i did just this. With a quarter mile to go, my legs burned like crazy, and all i wanted was to keep my place and finish hard. I was probably ln the most pain I had ever been in in my entire life. There it was, the line. I looked at the clock; 27:53!!! Holy crap i just wanted to be under 28:20. I sprinted and finished around 28:02, turned around, and what do i see? Ben then.... wait... KENNY??? O. M. G. I was 3rd on the team. Epic feeling. Ill never forget it. I finished and hunched over when i got out of the chute, and bill just wrapped his arms around me and said "Awesome. Awesome. Awesome....." for awhile. I was sooooo happy. Best race day of my life so far.
