Notes

It was a warm and muggy morning, but I did my first workout of the year and it exceeded all expectations. I did Pete's old fartlek of 10 min @ 10k, 5 min @ 5k, 3min @ 3k, 2min @ mile with recovery at 3 min, 2 min, and 90 sec respectively (bit longer than planned, but fine). The paces I hit were significantly better than I had expected for my first workout, averaging 5:49, 5:40, 5:36, and 5:22. I had to work hard for those, but they still felt surprisingly smooth. Even for the last piece, when I was pretty spent, I had some power left. All in all a strong effort - excited for more.
