Notes

Continuing to slowly scale up these runs, today I tried going over 5 miles for the first time in several months. Did the first mile with Steff, and then broke off to do the rest on my own. Felt surprisingly okay aerobically, though I definitely started to flag slightly in the second half. And there was no hamstring pain, which continues to be both surprising and exciting. Wrapped with some light leg exercises at home (lunges, star jumps, hamstring stuff).

As a side point, this is the first day-of log entry I'm making in 2019. I was frustrated with the hamstring injury and the long stretch I went through with very little exercise, and didn't update this log after New Year's. But I brought it back up to date yesterday (thanks to Garmin and my own brief iPhone notes), and am diving back in to record the rest of my recovery and maintain a little more accountability going forward. It's harder to fall into that no-exercise trap when I can see the blank calendar squares so easily...

Excited to see where this renewed commitment to serious training takes me. In the immediate term, I'm still preparing for the triathlon in September. After that, I want to focus the winter on getting back into solid shape, and then trying out for a NYC running club. Come next year, perhaps another triathlon, hopefully a trail race, and then maybe diving fully back into another attempt at a marathon PR in the fall. Let's give it a go!
