Run Your Art Out 5K Race - Fastest 5K time 2015...Small community race to benefit the Compass organization - Compass supports individuals with intellectual disabilities with art and other therapies...Race was held at Martin Luther King Regional Park in Silver Spring...
Cloud Cover and chilly at the start...Group stretching, goofy announcements and a rendition of "Happy Birthday" sung to one of the Compass employees at the start line before taking off...Course was an out and back on paved park trail and neighborhood roads...Went out fast but comfortable before hitting the first hills...First mile completed in 7:26...Set focus on catching some runners during mile two...A bit surprised to see 8:11 time for that second mile and with the longest up hill sections still to come...Ran hard for the last mile, letting it all hang out for the final uphill stretch to the finish...8:06 for the final mile plus...
Overall a great experience - small but enthusiastic crowd support and tasty sandwiches from jersey mike's...happy with time and conditioning...maybe I'll sign up for a December 5K and see if I can lower my time one more time...
