Jug Bay

Notes

Conditions:

Sunny and brisk…started at 41 degrees with a warm to the high 40s by the finish…strong headwind gusts to deal with…wooded trails water-logged and largely impassable for long stretches…legs a bit heavy and feet feeling a little sore…no doubt a result of yesterday’s 12 mile trek…

The Run:

First run at Jug Bay in the New Year…first run here in 3 weeks actually…started with a run on my 50K trail loop…conditions dictated a change in plan so after that soggy loop I headed out to Merkle…First run at Merkle since it closed to runners/hikers last Sept 30…ran all around the place…casual effort but speedier than yesterday’s trail adventure…

Wildlife:

Geese Galore…Saw a deer by itself and a small herd later on…caught a blue heron taking off in flight…huge wingspan

Random Notes:

Felt good to be back on “home turf”…camp fields underwater…even sand trails were super soft…plenty of traffic on the scenic tour road at Merkle…ran past a hiking group and other park visitors…two new steeplechase jumps on the field trail...conditions for January…other then two long runs over the weekend I only got a 2 mile run early in the week…need to run more frequently in the week ahead

Recovery:

12 Ounces of Molson Canadian
