2nd race of the day and not a lot of recovery after the mile, but this race worked out last year and I was hoping it would be over quickly and I wouldn't have time to feel the pain. The young guys got out fast again and I didn't even try to go with them. I think 4 of them got out in front of me and then a pretty solid gap showed up. I went through in right about 30 and figured that was as fast as I could go. The 2nd lap was more of them pulling away and I went through in 60 seconds. The leaders seemed like they were 10-20 meters ahead at this point but I assumed they had to come back and I knew I was actually feeling pretty good. I started to roll them on this lap and got up behind the leaders with Parker Beard coming along with me. I went back around Parker and tried to move up as much as possible on the bach stretch with 300 to go. Strider went ahead of Birch here and I got up to Strider planning on trying to pass him before the bell but he answered my move and I tucked in to wait for the final turn. Birch surprisingly came back with about 100 to go and we bumped each other a little but it wasn't bad. I was ready to try to swing wide and go around both of them off the corner but Strider moved forward with a burst and Birch swung wide so I hit the gap as hard as I could and battled Strider to the line. I really didn't feel like I had and chance of getting Stider during that last stretch though. He finished strong and I didn't really get any closed after that initial move off the corner. I'm really happy with this as my 2nd race though and feel like I ran a smart race.
