Notes
Holy crap. I was not expecting this today to say the least. I knew that I had a shot at winning this but I went out there and shattered it I guess!
Top guy from Olaf was a no show for the race, so I got put into lane 1 then, since I had the hip number of 2. I knew that being in this position now I was gonna get boxed in if I followed the plan of going out slow like I wanted to, so I got out a little hotter, and got behind the guy from UMD I wanted to pace with, and right on the tail of momo too.
I trailed them for the first 600 or so, and the pace just felt so easy. I hit 600, then just told myself I was going to take this into my own hands because I was feeling really good. Took the lead and just started to roll from there. I felt really smooth and efficient the whole time, even on the tight 200 meter turns as well. Just felt like I was in control, and nothing more or less. The rest of the race was just me trying to increase the gap on those guys since I constantly was hearing cheers for them the whole time. I hit with 200 to go and just tried to kick as hard as I could. really felt like I put it all out there but still didn't overly feel tired though. I crossed the finish line and looked up at the clock and saw I ran like 4:23-24. I was in AWE. Literally just pr'ed in the mile by 7 seconds off of non miler specific training in addition to running the last 1000 meters of this race by myself for the most part.
Really happy now more I think about this. I guess I do still have something left in me to get out there and set a few PB's, and get some W's as well. This has been a fun past month or so of training. Pretty much have been a professional runner, so maybe it should almost be expected.
The marathon build up is now complete. Never thought I'd see this day when I started back up in july, but its something to keep on aspiring to. Lets get after it these next few months.
Grandma's is coming...
