I trained well, but it was abbreviated. From a training perspective missing the long runs was a critical mistake. I know that even with consistent daily mileage that I need to hit those 14 and 15 mile LRs to help with the endurance. I think I could have possibly salvaged a decent time if I wouldn't had walked.
From the race itself, I did go out too fast. I was at my Max HR by the end of the fourth mile, and I held near that pace through mile seven. I was just red-lining though, both due to the my fast start and lack of LR, and I had to begin walking. I dropped my pace down to MP+ and just slogged it in. It was definitely humbling.
I think if I find myself in this same situation again (sub-optimal training), I should come up with a respectable goal and stick to it. I shouldn't try to see if any race day magic happens and go out faster than what I'm trained for.
