Set out to do a very easy 16, temps warm and humid. Started out on Lilly 16, being sure to take it VERY easy, drinking 4 oz water every 2 miles, doing 1 Hammer Endurolyte capsule every 2 miles starting at 6 miles. Things went quite well--speeds obviously not blazing, but that is OK. Tried to concentrate on running very easy uphill and then leaning forward, making arm swing more to the back and opening stride behind me on downhills. Running up Pilgrim was pretty hot, as no shade there at that time of day (started about 6:45). Gebhardt was not too bad but getting pretty hot again on Calhoun. Decided to call it a day at 12. Probably COULD have finished, but to what end? I want to feel good enough to run again tomorrow. Had I been able to find a bubbler or someplace to get wet and refill water bottles, probably would have pressed on also.

What I learned: This seems like a good starting point for Endurolytes, about 1 every 20 minutes. I did not get goosebumps, did not feel "zoned" where I couldn't pay attention to anything else but running. Also did not do any gels (1/2 pear before leaving, felt a bit hungry around 6 but it passed), which is not unusual for a 12-mile run, I guess, but am going to press the boundaries of where I start having to do gels. On a hot day, it seems that 2 oz of water per mile may not be quite enough.
