Prairie Path


This was a very difficult and somewhat choppy run due to the weather. Dew point was 72 at 5:30 a.m when I started & went up from there as the sun came up so humidity was brutal. My legs were really struggling with any uphill portions & by mile 3, my running partner & I pretty much had to run from water fountain to water fountain (essentially 1 to 2 mile segments), taking extra time to hydrate & cool down before hitting the next segment. The positive is that when I was running I was able to maintain decent form, cadence & pace. Miles 7, 8 & 9 were slightly upgrade most of the way. When we turned back at 9 my pace did pick up, but I must point out this was not a deliberate decision on my part. Instead my legs took over and I ran at the pace they wanted to go. Did take an extra long break between miles 12 & 13 for Gatorade & recovery and so I was able to more consciously push it to marathon effort in miles 13 & 14. Final two "cool down" miles were ok, but I was absolutely thrilled to be done with this run.
