Got to Y after an interesting televised public hearing... Also a Long day in Augusta....

Did 2 mile warm up at 8:45, then 2x3 mile strength intervals at 7:45 +/- with a 1 mile recovery interval at 10:12, followed by 1 mile cool down.

I used the back far left TM (as you face the front) and was noticed a "hot smell" as I was running. I thought they had the heat on in the workout run. AT about 8 miles into the run the smell quite a bit stronger as I had the TM at 8 mph, then saw a bit of smoke, the TM stopped abruptly, all the TM lights went and caught myself falling forward. Huh... I fried the motor I guess? Just too fast for the old machine! That TM had been slipping some, but not bad. With two miles to go in the workout I jumped on the next TM over, which I had tried yesterday and knew it was slipping. I got it up to 8 mph and it would just skip and slow down, and then speed up. Terrible slipping action... So, at 8:35 PM I go across the aisle to the far right TM facing the front and finish the last mile of the interval with another cool down mile at 8:34.

Y really needs to catch up the maintenance of these TM's... Three are down now!

Intervals were actually easy, though boring. Pace was very doable. Done. Tomorrow is a rest day!

What is a "strength intervals"? Certain Incline?

Dave T.

In the Hanson plan it is a longer interval at 10 sec below marathon path or at half marathon path for distances of 1, 2, 2.5 and 3 miles with recoveries of 400 to 1 mile.

Ah... I tried to do something similar, Mcmillan has 3X2 Mile intervals (5 min jog recoveries or a version 6x1mile, 3-4 mile jog recovery.) Thanks.
