Notes

Ran first 17.5 of Boston from Hopkinton to Newton Fire Department. Felt amazingly good, no ab pain, but around mile 7 left ankle started to ache and by mile 10 through 17 it hurt up my left outer shin. Kept cadence around 172 and increased it on downhills. Goal today was to push downhills and see if I could trash the quads. The shorter stride length faster cadence really helped. I got to fire station at 5:15 and Jane and Carrie were going to pick me up at 5:30. The we're stuck in traffic so I waited to 6:10 before they arrived. Guess I could have kept going, but goal was downhills to Newton.

Compared to last years' race, I was 1.5 minutes fast to this point, but more importantly the paces were more even and I actually felt much better here than I did last year.

Very concerned about left ankle... Very painful hours later... Took 3 Ibuprofen, and iced it. Will lay low this week and heal up. Oh and did I mention it time for TAPER!!!

Boston three weeks from Monday.

Added 3/26. Ankle, swollen, discolored and painful. Pain runs up outside of left shin about 6" up from ankle.

That's a nice run. Hope the ankle holds up OK - I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was due to the change in style. Take it easy there old man.
