Notes
What a race. Out quick but was feeling surprisingly good. I knew on my warm up that my legs were actually poppy (first time they felt that way this summer) and that they were going to respond how I wanted them to. Don't think I got passed the entire way except maybe in the last 400m by one girl.
400m
I didn't realize in real time coming through the quarter how fast it actually was. I was across the start line about 1.5" after the gun, so the 71 that I saw on the clock was really probably a high 69 or low 70. In practice that pace has felt pretty dang hard but it was smooth then (though I still knew it was going to be pretty quick. It bodes well for trying to hold 4:40 pace in the next mile training cycle. This was slightly uphill the last 100m or so.
800m
This was totally uphill. Clock said 2:30 which means I was about 2:28, so probably a 79 here. That's about right. I plugged the elevation gain into a calculator and it equates to about a flat 73. So if I can roll through a race in 2:23 that is pretty good.
1200m
Good thing the downhill started right at 800 because this is where it really started to hurt. I was trying to take advantage of the downhill (as I am sure everyone was) but at the same time allow myself to recuperate just a bit. Bre Bakan and I were kind of moving up together so I just tried to stay behind her as we moved through a few people.
1600m
Tried to summon the kick this last 400m but it just wasn't quite there the way it was for Balloonfest. But I was running a way better pace for the distance than I did there, so that's fine. Still I wish I could have gone under 70 this last quarter mile. That would have put me at 4:52 which would have been nice, as well as right ahead of two other people in my age group! (of which I was 7th).
