I used this 8OH race as a training run in place of 2 scheduled long runs Sat/Sun. Needed 28 for the weekend. Goal was to run 10 loops on the 2.8 mi course. The course was super swampy due to the tropical storm and other rain during the week. Gaiters kept sand out (mostly) for about 6 loops, but as the course got more mucky nothing helped and sand filled shoes making them 3 sizes too small causing a large (sand filled) blister on the back of my left heel. I had plenty of time to run a 9th loop, but since it was a training run, decided to call it good for the day and run an additional 6 miles the following morning to more closely simulate TRR experience on tired legs.
