What now, BITCHES??!! More to come after shower :) :) :) !!!!
Ha, that comment was from right after my run, and that's called runner's high. But, seriously this was an awesome run. It was miserable outside. Cold and way, way too windy. My goal was to do 8 miles easy and then 10 miles at marathon pace.
The easy miles were fine and I took a GU right before the faster stuff which I think helped. That first mile was tough. It had a lot of uphill and a lot of wind and I felt like I was pushing to hard to just be under 8 and I still had 9 to go. I was getting ready for this to not go well. But, then the second mile went much better and it started to feel like less effort so then I started to get positive. That was until I turned on to Hillsborough Rd. for mile 13.
It was some uphill and a ridiculous headwind maybe ~17 mph? The WHOLE WAY on Hillsborough. It did not let up. When I first started I was going at about 8:15 pace and hurting with my head down. I was so upset. I actually yelled out "ARE YOU KIDDING ME??!?!" And then I decided, screw this, I'm pushing through this crap and I'm getting it under 8 min pace, and that is exactly what I did. 7:56, 7:52, 7:51 were all with this head wind. I was pushing hard, but actually not that hard. I'm going to guess that with no wind these would have been in the 7:30s. Once I turned on too willow, I picked it up a bit and then the last mile I just started to cruise it in. I was still in control and feeling strong.
For it being my longest distance since my last marathon over a year ago, and it being 10 miles fast, and the crazy weather and the end of a 60 mile week, I am very satisfied right now :) Probably one of my best training runs to date! And my best VDOT to HR ratio ever.
Forgot to mention that I wore my sleeves again today and once again had an awesome run, hmmmm? Coincidence? Not sure.
