Beautiful night for a run!
So last week I tried the "quit smoking first - then run" approach. Didn't work so well.
So today I said fuck it. Let's try the "start running - then quit smoking" approach. We'll see if it works better.
I've been smoking a pack a day again for the last 7-8 weeks (minus a day or two trying to quit). You can really see it in the HR. Normally a run like this is down in the 150-160's. The rest was a little harder than easy - but comfortable - not quite tempo.
After 4 miles, I decided to see what tempo pace felt like. I ran mile 5 in 8:07. I felt like I had gas for another mile of that - MAYBE - big maybe. But I knew the next mile and half was uphill - so I said screw it and dropped back down to easy to recover - thinking maybe I'll try another fast mile after I crest the hill. Luckily, I wised up by the time I got to the top and just cruised the rest of the way home.
Harvest moon (almost) tonight - looked awesome running towards it the last 2 miles home.
