My old tempo pace was 8:25-8:47 - my new one (based on a recent 5k) is 8:02-8:23. So this tempo run was a little slow, but I'm still a little tired and tight from this weekend's 15k race on Saturday and 1 mile time trial on Sunday - so we'll call 8:59 close enough for this week. My goal over the next 4 to 5 weeks is to work my easy and tempo runs down into my new pace ranges.
Actually, I was just checking the Pfitz schedule - he calls for the tempo run to be done at 15k - 1/2 Marathon pace - so I feel a lot better about the pace at which I ran it. But will still look to push my paces as mentioned above.
Two points of note are that this 5 mile tempo run is also a new 5 mile PR for me by 1:15 and my 15k time was only 1:30 minutes slower than Saturday's 15k race time.
