Adam Johnson Memorial 3-Miler

1st Place--14:33 (garmin users have course short (2.88-90) but for log purposes I will log as 3Miler)

Won $70, free shoes, and Wine Glass with 2012 Champion on it (nice way to remember the race long term)

I have felt a little off this week probably mostly from it being a cut back week. Warm up was muggy and I felt sort of bad. Once I saw the MU guys there (who I really respect racing wise) I knew I had to be ready to run once the gun went off. I shot out to the lead early and really never looked back, although I didn't feel so good or fast out there. I wore my garmin (got the course at 2.88) since there wasn't going to be any mile markers but I have the mile splits option turned off so I only looked down at it once (the memorial arch turn around area, roughly halfway). I saw 4:58 pace for the first half of the race and knew with the way I was feeling it might be a struggle home. Luckily I held on to win but did fade off the pace. The course was slower in that it had 9 hard right or hard left turns which is tough to keep the momentum through. But even with the turns, no mile markers and not feeling quite right the time for the distance would have had me in the 15:30s for a full 5K. I'll take that for now, getting on a fast 5K course in a month will tell me a lot more about if I have a sub 15 shot this spring/summer or not.

Not to be lost in my race recapping is the real reason I attended this race. I wanted to support a great friend in Teddy Johnson and honor his son Adam in the best way I can, which for me was to run hard! I appreciate everything Teddy has done for me and for Huntington running..I hate to see this being the last year for the event but I think everyone understands how tough these events are on Teddy! It was a great 5 year event that raised lots of money for the scholarship fund!

Thanks to ole John Meadows for being the personal agent today...drove me to the race, took pictures and video and only took the payment of free milkshakes! haha

Back out tomorrow to tempo if sore or race if feeling good the Joker 4-miler!

Nice race and good luck tomorrow. John always seams to be clutch in big time situations.

Nice work! Congrats! Sub-15 is definitely there for you. Just need a little 5k specific work and you'll knock it down.
