2012 WS Series Overal Champ

McCollam and me had the plan of 5:05 pace for as long as we could hold it as we both thought 31:40 was tip top of our current fitness. He held it and I faded off pretty bad. Together through 3miles, he had 2-3 seconds at 4miles and then he really stretched it over the last 1.5miles as I was 6 seconds back at that point but finished 39seconds behind when it counts at the finish line. Good hard tuneup that felt good through 3-4miles then turn really rough legged to the finish. Best of luck to good buddy McCollam next weekend as he hopefully turns over a solid half marathon!

I ran this race in 32:09 solo last year but that was in half marathon phase and not coming off a big chunk of mileage. These next 2 weeks are pretty critical as I saw today my legs are tired and not quite fresh enough to race which isn't a bad thing at this point of marathon training.

Big goal is still right there in 2 weeks for the 26.2mile distance!

Garmin Splits: 5:04-5:08-5:06-(15:50s at 5K turn around)-5:07-5:12-5:21-78

*25:37 through 5miles which is much better then the 26:04 8K that I really struggled through 4 weeks ago.

Great WS turnout again with close to 300 runners and a solid field...great seeing so many friends out there as Swisher ran solid and 2 HSers I coach finished strong in 4th and 5th place and Allison took the womens overall series title! Congrats to everyone that helped make this the biggest WS ever!

Wow 5min pace awesome! I'll work hard the next year to get mine from 7min down to 6. Good luck at the beach!

Splits just show a little fatigue in the legs and not lack of fitness. With a very similar time you went into Myrtle and ran 1:10 last year. So, with that time you should be very close to your goal fitness and time for Myrtle.

Really a lot of positives to take from this race--way better than your 8k and also what you and Swisher said. I can't wait to watch you at Myrtle! : )

LIKE ALWAYS MAN, GREAT RACE.

GOOD TO HAVE YOUR LEGS A LITTLE TIRED 2 WEEKS OUT, THAT MEANS YOUR TAPER WILL BE GUILT FREE, WORK EXACTLY THE WAY IT'S SUPPOSED TO. YOU'LL HAVE A GREAT RACE, BECAUSE YOURE A GREAT RUNNER.

You're marathon fit, not necessarily 10k fit, and there's a BIG difference. You'll be ready to go in a couple weeks when it counts, especially as you freshen up a bit. Good tune-up, and congrats on winning the series!

Thanks everyone!
