Notes

:D

10x800m broken into 5 sets. 400m jog between intervals, 800m jog between sets.

This was probably my favorite workout of the season. It was hard, but I had plenty of energy and strength to keep trending the splits negative. I kept creeping up on the guys who are a little faster than me (2:59 guys). And for the last few intervals I was either right behind them or passed them. However, my favorite part was the 9th interval: for whatever reason I was feeling frisky and decided to chase the fastest guys (2:45 guys). Through the first 600 I kept with them and even felt like they were going a little slow. Then for the last 200 my quads started really feeling it. I had to concentrate on my form to make sure not to lose it. My breathing was race-labored. While the rest of the 800 I was tucked in right behind them, I started losing ground. I think I was about 3meters behind them over the line. Around the second 400, I told them, "coach is going to kill me for this." And as I passed him I heard, "is that Stadjak?!". After I finished he shook his head at me (usually this kinda thing would result in a verbal dress-down), but then he smiled. He always firmly reminds us "Don't blow the last one out!!" So my only defense was that it wasn't the last one.

I didn't do it to be macho or anything. Everyone knows I'm the slowest of the bunch. No changing that this season. I did it out of pure joy. Sometimes marathon training is such a conservative drag. I had to inject a little fun. And I had a great time.

Of course, I had to check in a solid last interval so I didn't get reprimanded for using all my juice on the 2nd to last. Healthy Neg-split. So rather nice.

If the recoveries were a little shorter, this would be a textbook Yasso 800s workout. Looks like you are ready for a sub 3:10 to me.

Good luck!

Thanks. I think Coach made the workout different just so we wouldn't ascribe it to Yasso's theory.
