Notes

Magnuson Park Winter Grand Prix Road Race. Solid race, and technically a PR. The course was a one mile loop with a slight uphill from 0.4-0.6 and a slight downhill from 0.6-0.8, Conditions were pretty good. It was cold (~35) but not raining or windy.

I was somewhere around 15th about 300 meters in and spent the first mile working may way through the guys who went out too hard. I hit the first mile in ~5:08 and was surprised to find the lead pack, which included Brett, still only 10-15 meters ahead. I joined them around 1.25, and by the top of the gradual uphill, at about 1.6, the group started stringing out. Brett and the high school kid he'd beat at the previous 3 races pulled ahead, with the high schooler having a pretty good edge on Brett which he'd hold until the end (9:55 to 10:00). Another high schooler pulled ahead of me on the downhill and I pulled ahead of Ian, a Club Northwest guy I've done some workouts with who beat me at the last 2 mile race, and another high schooler who ended up 6th. We all held our positions for the final 0.4. Everyone except maybe Brett, who was having an off day, pushed pretty hard over that last half-mile or so but no one was quite close enough for an all-out sprint at the end. I was ~3 seconds behind 3rd and ~2 seconds ahead of 5th. My second mile split was ~5:00 flat. The next one of these is February 2nd on the track.
