can't believe what a bad course they had for this 10k. this race was put on by some company that does these all over the US but they did a bad job with course lay out. Luckily I did the first 2 miles of the course as a warm up so I was somewhat prepared for the hills. I had no idea before hand that it would be that bad. Literally mile one was about 4 huffman hills. you would go up a hill, turn, go down a street for a block, turn again then go up another hill. Mile 2 was more of the same, but this time you would also make 2 90 degree turns onto side walks with people coming from all directions. It was a cluster F of hills, turns, and people the first 2 miles. Third mile was finally flat but you were still constantly making 90 degree turns and a few more sidewalks. I have no idea why in the hell we had to be on so many sidewalks. I know they can't control the uphills but at least find a road that we can run on so we don't have to turn every other block or run on sidewalks. It was almost impossible to establish a rhythm the entire way. It was fun passing people though the entire time. Felt bad though since the majority of them had just biked and swam. I was only running. Luckily the last 2 miles were down hill so I was able to make up for my first 2 miles being so slow. Last two miles I just started hammering as fast as I could using the downhills. I hit a 10:20 for the last 2 miles. Even the finish was poorly marked. I didn't even see the turn off for it. I went off course and luckily my mom wasn't far away and yelled at me so I was able to turn around and get back at it. Only cost me about 5 seconds. I was hoping to go around 34:00 for this race but that was when I thought it was a flat course. Not too mad about the time after all the hills I had to endure. Fun to run on a relay with DJ and Alex. They both did great as well. We ended up taking home the relay championship.
