Notes

Going into the race I was really just looking to get some quicker paced effort in through the half then just keep going till I fell off pace. Main focus was Naperville in another 5 weeks and I wanted a reference point of my current shape. Really wasn't thinking id go more than 20. Figured go out in mid 1:19 through the half to practice going sub 2:40 pace and see how I felt in the miles after . At the start I went out around 10th and then just looked for a couple guys to key off of. Found 2 guys and we moved up well toward the front around 10. Went through the half in 1:18:10... So way faster than I wanted. Around 14 I moved up into 4th with nobody in sight in front of me. My goal then became try and get to 20 miles in 2:00 hours even . When I ran 2:43:30 I hit 20 in 2:06 and closed hard. I managed to hit 20 in 2:00:11. That was a big step for me. Never have been that fast for that far. At that point I had dropped to 6:15 pace so the goal then became just keep going till you fall apart completely. That happened at 22. But I only had 4 miles left so I just sucked it up and finished. I was actually still on 2:40 flat pace with 2 to go but I knew there was no way that would happen at my current pace . My best finish at this race was 20th and I ended up 8th today. Can't believe I could have broken 2:40 today off 3 marathon long runs/workouts and a summer average mileage of 30 a week. I hope to never run a marathon like that again . Not ideal.

Splits: 6:01, 5:55, 6:08, 5:53, 5:48, 5:58, 5:55, 5:54, 5:57, 5:55, 5:56, 5:55, 5:57, 6:01, 5:52, 5:58, 6:05, 6:14, 6:15, 6:24, 6:14, 6:41, 6:44, 6:24, 7:03, 6:57, 1:23
