Notes

Back to USR for another 5k road race. Didnt expect too much besides trying to beat Buser with a week of no running.

Warmup was pretty exhausting actually, the threshold felt too hard even though I felt pretty slow. Even going at the line, my breathing felt really off and my nerves were acting up. Didnt also help that the race started late because they decided to place the timing mats right before race time, which was 9 am. Gun finally went off and the race began.

1st mile

I immediately went to the front pack to get in good position and not get boxed in. Almost immediately afterwards, I settled in so that I wouldnt go through this mile too fast. However, the front pack was getting away very early and I knew if I lost contact, I would be struggling no mans land for the rest of the race, so I responded and stuck myself at the back of the front group. Mile was at 5:16, not too fast.

2nd mile

Group started to string out significantly, so I tried to pick off people. Person right in front of me was Buser, but he truned out to be running just as fast as I was. So, the whole second mile was me trying to catch up to him and then picking up more people. Feel like I worked the hardest on this mile. Went through 2 mile in 10 50, which I think is a little over 2 miles if anything.

3rd mile

Still was on Busers tail because he was the only person in front of me. Caught up to him near the finish, but that hill near the end killed my momentum, so I lost contact almost immediately. 2 people used that oppurtunity to pass me, but my breakfast started to creep on my throat, so I wasnt able to respond to it. Pretty much coasted to the finish without trying to barf.

Overall, Im not upset with this race. I think I race best when I run aggressively in the middle rather than the beginning. However, I also learned I need to respond to situations immediately or I will have to make up even more space than needed. DMB showed up to my race again, so thats always a plus. Didnt get a trophy because my age group is so fuckijg competitive. Also, this is pretty much the baseline Im going to work off of for the next 6 months, so thats exciting as well.

Going to take off Friday through Sunday and start running again Monday, just like I planned.
