I came into this run with many miles on my legs and fatigued. My intentions were to start out at 6:40 pace, and then start racing and picking people off. I used manual splits due to GPS always being off. I started slow and relaxed for the first mile: 6:48. I was sorta upset that I started so slow. I picked up the pace a little. 6:44 for the second mile. Again, a little upset that I was so slow. I then focused on catching people. I caught a few people. I was suffering in mile 4. There was a slight incline and I was paying the price for speeding up in the previous mile to catch people. For the remainder of the race, a few of us kept switching positions. 2 of these guys ended up passing me of me. I tried working together with one girl towards the end. With .5 mile to go, I started going into 'this is a good day to die' mode. I kept this pace until .25 miles to go. Then I tried to slowly ramp up the pace till the finish.
Garmin time of 33:25.33, Race time of 33:21. There was an issue with the timing again. I helped test out the timing mat before the race began. And it recorded that I finished the race before I started! So, I'm somewhere between 33:25 and 33:21. How about I take the average and call it 33:23.
Overall, I'm happy with this race. I know that with a proper rest, I can and will meet my goal of sub 93 in the half.
