this was the big one. col de la croix de fer. started hammering out from allemont, began really climbing around 5km, and my legs were already in pain. seemed to be forever to get up to le rivier. quick descent for a couple km, then more up. this was the hard part. i thought that the end of this climb was the hardest, so i was pretty worried, but it eased up significantly over the last 8km. helped to have a couple cars go by with people cheering for me. cruised to the summit in 2:04, legs destroyed. a little cold at the top, but the sun was out so not too bad. really pretty. 55 minutes down, including the short climb to le rivier. this was the best bike ride i've ever done.
