oh man I actually ran a smart race. started the run around 10th, about a quarter mile in i passed rachel and she told me i was in 7th. Counted the people in front of me and I could see 2nd place. 1st was a long way out. It helped that I knew who i needed to catch to podium. Kept it relaxed, picking people off one by one until i was in 4th. Sat behind 2nd and 3rd and then made my move with about 3/4ths of a mile to go. Surged to move into second place, the guy tried to go with me but i surged again and broke him. Held on the rest of the way in despite plenty of stomach heaves. Splits were 5:57, 5:54, 5:42. actually a 5k PR. this was awesome.
