Today i went commando but not because i wanted to, because i had no clean underwear. Ive been wearing much of the same clothing for a while. when i woke up i went on youtube and watched norm macdonald give a speech at a white house correspondents dinner in the late 90s. then I watched a bunch of norm macdonald videos. a couple weeks ago i watched his special on netflix and it was great. from this talk show appearances and bits from his own podcast show i was learning more and more about how much respect his has in the comedy field from the likes of comedy giants such as Jerry Seinfeld, David letterman, and jim carrey. Norm is a cool guy. I did this for about two hours and then at eleven I went on my mission. cortney had been given a cello. her friend had one she didnt use anymore and cortney wanted to learn over the summer, but while tuning it she had broken the d string. I was driving the the cello to the violin loft in columbus to get a new string put in. I packed the large instrument into the car and then went to the bookstore and bought a NAKED smoothie thing because i have not been eating healthy very much recently. just wendy's 4 for 4 or as i often accidentally say when i order them: the wendy's 4 by 4. from there i went to the gas station to fill up the tank of "the orange gentlemen" (the name of my orange Toyoda corolla). For the ride to columbus i played the comedy bang bang podcast best of 2017 part 3 which probably was dangerous to do while driving because i often found myself laughing uncontrollably to the point of tears. I soon arrived to the violin loft on north high street. it was a lovely place, an old looking house made bricks that looked like it could have been in the german countryside. i entered and it was a bustling little place with many young aspiring violinists with their parents getting bows re-stringed and such. I was helped almost immediately and was in and out in no less than 10 minutes, but not after learning that the proper way to tune the cello was not, in fact, by using the nobs at the top, but the thin silver nobs at the bottom. from there i decided to make a day out of my colombus trip and looked for a record/movie story on google. there was one four minutes away and i spent a decent time browsing there. i came out with three movies i have never seen before: a 70s soccer john huston movie starring slyvester stallone, pele, and michael caine called 'victory', alexander payne's drama/comedy set in the California wine country 'sideways' and with the buy two get one free i could resist picking up a movie called 'be kind, rewind' which is entirely about two characters who work in a video rental store. I had hoped this meta selection would have been noticed by the cashier but it was not addressed. perhaps i appeared too cold a character. from there I was dead set on getting myself a buckeye donut. oddly enough buckeye donuts was on high street too, but thirteen minutes south. I drove down and passed the familiar sites from our trip early in the fall of 2017 to OSU. I ended up parking deep in a neighborhood behind the donut shop amoungst many large frat houses. I walked around the frattly place and neared buckeyes I passed a house that said above its porch, "Stumphaus" and had a Grateful Dead flag hanging in the center. on the lawn in the midst of many littered beer cans and junk there was a small wooden bear holding a sign that read "no grinding allowed". At the the donut shop I encountered a very jolly cashier who related to my inability to settle on what donut to get by saying "oh the pressure's on isnt it?" on the wall there was a printed out picture of the LOTR boromir meme that said "one does not simply eat only one donut". So i got two. a BUCKEYE and a blueberry. and a coffee because it thought to myself 'ive had coffee with a donut before at least once and that was not bad" the coffee was really hot and i kind of regretted the purchase. i went outside and sat down in a row of chairs. a shifty man drinking something wrapped in a paper bag and eating wendy's came over and sat in a chair over from me. i was uneasy about this because there was no one else around and i recalled a sitting area inside with actual tables. i didnt even quite know why i came outside in the first place. I left the man and went inside. sitting inside and eating my donuts i realized there was chocolate milk. chocolate milk! of course! that is way better than coffee. I sat for awhile and pondered this potential purchase. then an older man came in the shop and started talking about how it was national doughnut day and by golly he was right. why wasnt there a line going outside the corner of this place?! I went up and bought a chocolate milk and a buttermilk donut. it was great. as I walked back down frat lane i listened to Tommy Emmanuel's "Lewis and Clark" and thought about what an adventure this has been. i now wanted to go to a bookstore and found one on the outskirts of colombus called half priced books which i guessed was a chain. they had movies and music too which was cool. I spent at least an hour there and picked up a large book on the history of world cinema and a book on the last days of pablo escabar and a 3 dollar, 12 pound book called drama that i thought i might need for some reason. the way back to Kenyon was even more funny listening to comedy bang bang. upon arrival I went for a run with cortney that was probably close to six miles.
