Notes

Went into tonight's workout thinking that it seemed pretty easy. Quickly changed when I realized the last three 800's were around repeat pace, not interval pace. Goal workout was to start an 800 at threshold pace, easy 1:30 rest, then 800 at repeat plus 4 seconds, 800 at repeat, then 800 at repeat minus 4 seconds, with 3:00 rest after each. Closing out the workout were two 200's at repeat.

Small crew tonight, workout was with Andy and Pawlicki.

First 800 at threshold was pretty easy, just cruised running 42's each lap and got a little sloppy on the last one due to crowding but pacing on this one wasnt as important since it was designed just as an extended warmup.

Moving into the fast stuff, first 800 (repeat + 4) was planned at 37's for each lap. Came in too fast to start off and tried to back off a little on the back end so that we wouldnt blow up for the next two reps. Splits came in around 36-36-37-38.

The 800 at repeat was planned at 36's. Nailed the first two laps but just blew up over the last two. The track was packed tonight so there was some weaving and running in lane 3, but still should have been able to make it through without falling off this much. Splits were 36-36-38-37, almost a nice copy of the first one.

The last 800 at repeat was planned at 35's. After leading the first three and being unable to hit the last split, decided to let Andy take over the pacing. Stayed on close to on target through two laps again and then a complete fall-out, effectively giving up. Splits were 35-36-38-38. Ended up being the slowest of all three (after rounding). So much for the progression plan dropping 4 seconds on each one.

Closed out the workout with two 200's. Didnt have much juice in the legs to go all out, so just hit the 34's which in theory line up with the pace chart but we almost always run these much faster.

Not sure how to feel about tonight. Failed to hit the splits, but at the same time still easing back into the speedwork. Not sure how long I can keep using that excuse, but I think it's still a valid one for the moment.
