Notes
Finished 2nd overall, once again behind Brian. Gun went off and went out as I hoped around 5:00. Brian passed me as we made the first turn and at that point we had already dropped pace back a bit. We hit the first mile around 5:10 and then he began to gap me. Mile 2 should be a fast mile, but I continued to slow and got stuck in a 5:20 rut. It soon became clear that I was going to need to fight for 2nd place and going for the win was out of the question.
A bit misty at times with some smaller puddles, but a very warm (but comfortable) New Year Day race. Without the rain, it would have been perfect and even with the weather, there was very minimal impact.
Would have preferred to be 20-30 seconds faster but alas it was not in the cards. To be fair, I havent done any speedwork other than races in November-early December. Without getting in some faster runs, I'm not putting myself in a position to race fast for these shorter races.
Overall had fun today despite the loss.
