12 miles goal pace of 7:42. Was feeling good for the first six, then started to feel the fact that it was a little bit warmer than I am used to. Kept it in the 7:50-7:55 range the next couple miles, but had to stop and get lots of water to drink and to douse myself with. First half of mile 9 was a real struggle, physically and mentally, and for a little while I thought I might be done, then I decided to make myself work harder and hurt a bit more, and was able to bring it back down to a good pace most of the second half of that mile. The 8:11 reflects running about 8:30 pace the first half mile, then working hard to hold it under 8:00 the second half. Maintained a strong effort and decent pace through ten. After my last water stop, I was really having to work hard to keep going, and I had some stretches where I kept it under 7:50, but then other spots where I would climb above 8:10. It was a combination of physical and mental tiredness/letdown. Really wanted to keep the last mile under 8, but the incline leading up to the last bridge was tough, and that little bit took a lot out of me.
