Pretty pleased with this post-collegiate rust buster! First overall.
Had about a 30 minute drive to the venue, got a small coffee on the way. Jogged the course a bit and it seemed pretty well marked. Got to the start line and some dude came up to me to let me know there wasn't going to be a pace bike so if I got to the front I would have to just follow the flags.
Race got off and I had a pretty good start: Some 12 year olds were sprinting so it helped me set a hard but controlled effort off the line. Took the lead from the strongest of them after 400m and never really looked back. Approx mile split 5:11, 2 mile in 10:25. Overall slowed a bit over the last mile, there were a couple of tighter turns that I was a little hesitant at first because the volunteers weren't paying attention and standing in the way... didnt check my watch at 3 miles but saw 15:5x on the final straightaway and almost couldn't believe it. Skeptical of the distance...came to find out it was closer to 3.07 after mapping it. Easiest a 16:16 has felt, and still plenty of time until the marathon!
Walked away with some pretty sweet prizes, so totally worth the last minute decision to enter.
