Notes

so many thoughts about this race. first thing in the morning i ate a gf bar since it would be two hours til race time, it went down okay but then i tried eating some of my dried fruit like i always do before a long run and my stomach just turned and i couldn't eat it. we were late getting to the metro link but then it was fine, we ended up having plenty of time but we did have to ride backwards....and again, my stomach was sour. got to the venue, walked around and felt settled and calm. ended up in corral B with jess but everyone took off way to fast and we were at a good pace to start off. bridges weren't that tough but getting to one of them we had to go under an overpass and the smell of human waste was so strong we could barely breath.

came off the bridges and the back into downtown and the crowd support was awesome. felt like we were flying. miles four, five, and six felt like i could run strong like that the whole way to the finish. loved our pace and felt so strong. at mile six tried to take a sip of gatorade because i could feel the salt on my face, but it mostly ended up on my face. my stomach didn't like it. mile seven running through the Budweiser brewery and mostly uphill and i was sick. the yeasty fermenting smell was disgusting. couldn't talk and just focused on breathing and being calm. made it through and done with that section of uphills and miles eight and nine were kind of a blur. tried to take my gel and couldn't handle it so threw it away. started to splash water on my face

at mile ten Jess tells me this is where we need to focus, our training prepared us for this and we just have to tell our bodies what to do. and i couldn't talk but wanted to tell her that i wanted to walk. I was bushed.i felt terrible. just hanging on and staying with Jess. wouldn't have made it without her there. mile eleven was just dependent on her encouragement.

mile twelve is where it started to unravel. jess wanted to speed up and i couldn't . i was starting to gag and i knew that i would throw up when we stopped moving. we finally make it to the final stretch and the last bit through the corrals was endless, it just kept going and going. i was so miserable. just dying for it to be over. crossed the finish, turned off my garmin and threw up three times, couldn't move. dr took me to the tent, but pretty soon felt much better and able to walk again.

ugh
