Funny story, I ran to Austria. I ran a pretty direct line over the pedestrian bridge, and then along the river Danube, until the road ended, and then took a foot path 50 meters up to Austria. There was a small rusty sign facing Austria that said three words, including "Verboten" - forbidden. I ran a little farther on the road, then realized I didn't have my passport, and getting stopped by the police could be a big deal, despite the fact there is no fence that I crossed. So I turned around and went back the same way. I think had I stuck to the main road I could have stayed on roads the whole time, but I was trying to follow the river as much as possible. So when I joke about "accidentally" going into another country without any form of identification, this is that time.
