Splits: 82, 87, 83, 76(5:28), 79, 82, 81, 81(5:24), 79, 79, 78, 79(5:15), [16:46] 77, 77, 78, 79(5:11), 79, 78, 79, 79(5:15)[26:33], 80, 79, 77, 77(5:13), 70(5:03) [16:12]. So...We went out I got out in 6th behind 2 CG and 3 MIT with Duffty beside. Matt (CG) ran away from us and we were a huge pack then MIT threw in a 76 and we got single file. I spent the next 2 .5 miles directly behind them and James (CG) who mentioned in respone to Matt running ahead of us "yeah I appologize for my teamate I don't know what he's doin'" and they were taking turns leading so I just held back but every once and awhile a gap would open up and I would move up past them into 3rd or 4th over all and then they would pass me back and I would be back in 5th or 6th. After doing this a few times they got tired of it ( I was still having fun) and I was in 3rd over all. Then those two 77s came down and that is when everyone else behind us fell back. I started hearing only Jack and Isaiah so that meant it was just the two of us and Matt up ahead. This was the hard past with about 11-9 laps to go I thought about dropping back but if you drop back your out (not always but fairly often) so I decided this is why I'm here running this and I think he also eased up a little. So I was able to hang in there. With about 2 miles to go I thought" all I have to do is pass this guy whos been breaking my wind the whole race and I get all NEWMAC" I really wasn't worried about time because after hearing 87 and then 16:46 I thought there was no chance we'd go sub 33 so I was just running for the win. With 8 laps to go Matt up front started to fall back to us and then I started to get excited. With about 6 laps or so we caught him and both os us were content to let him break the wind. With 2150 to go we lapped Ashman and I said "I'm going to go PR in the 8k" cause I felt great and I could still talk and I was hoping it would psyc out the other guys that I was so well rested. At this point I was just deciding when to make a move. I decided I'd make my move with the wind instead of working harder into the wind and I wanted to immagine that after I made it I would go back so with 1100 to go I went around to the lead. I picked it up a little but I was scared that I would burn up early and get passed in the last 100 so I was cautious. I think with 800 to go they got in front of me and I decided that's ok it's the finish that matters. We weren't moving much faster and CG was leading with MIT on the inside and with 430 left I moved up even and we hit the bell lap together as I was passing him I got to the lead and then I went. The clock said like 1:4something and I thought just maybe we'll get sub 33 probably low 33.I went with every thing I thought I could do in a 400. With about 280 to go they came past me and I got pushed onto the inside but it was only my left foot and it was the rubber part inside the rail and only one step so I wasn't dq'd it didn't really phase me I just put everything I had out there and it felt like I was going to get passed at any moment. My arms never got that bloated feeling but I got that wobbly head tired thing but I didn't care I thought someone was coming up on me so I moved to lane two so they wouldn't go around and gave it every ounce. I thought I might crash but it didn't matter I wasn't backing down. I saw the clock 2:56, 2:57, 2:58 as I crossed and I was so happy. I could barely walk but I was happy. I knew I was under 33 and honestly I didn't expect that most of the race. God has once again blessed my life. I would like to also thank my fellow 10kers for workouts and the other teams for breaking wind and the coaches for giving us workouts and talking us through races and Hunter and Scott for cheering every lap and the entire team for getting into it in the end and cheering me to a crazy last mile. My support network is great and I couldn't do this alone despite how independant I act. I got spiked on my left leg too.
