Notes

When you're running on empty, it helps to think about what you have. I have a lot to be thankful for. Have had to overcome quite a few issues over the past month that just sent me back to the basics. Like learning how to run again. Spent the last week in overdrive just to get back into some semblance of running shape so the "vacation" wasn't a total waste. 8 minute miles felt like a struggle. I rarely ever have doubts when I pin on that race bib, but sub-3 was no lock this time around. Fortunately, the race was on a fantastic double loop course in and around the LSU campus. Weather was ideal for us northern yanks with the exception of the cold headwind blowing in from Dallas. In the end, managed to get under the self-imposed deadline with some time to spare. Another sub-3 state in the books. Getting 2nd overall was a tremendous surprise, and didn't realize that 1st place was within striking distance. Passed 3rd place runner with 2 miles to go. 38 sec positive split. Negative split marathon still playing hard to get. This weekend was supposed to be my first back-to-back marathon, but Big D got cancelled due to the ice storm. Would have been interesting to find out if I had another one left in me. Going to just head to Florida now to get some sun, take some time off from running, and prepare for what looks to be an insane 2014. "Onward" to 2014!
