Notes

Conditions were ideal although a little wet on a relatively fast course. The cambered road was tough to deal with early on (bothered left leg), especially with the course open to traffic throughout (dodging puddles and cars). Went out a little too hot (5:45 ave for first three miles) to stay with the lead pack of four through the 5K (wanted to see if I could truly race at this distance, rather than just going for a PR), but fell back into 3rd place for the rest of the race. Had the 2nd place runner in my sights from wire-to-wire, but ran out of running room when he was slowing. Happy to have been able to finish strong (5:48 ave for last three miles) on very tired legs. Track workouts showing benefits. Missed PR set at New Bedford '11 by about a 45 seconds. Pretty much at the same level of fitness as when I went into Boston '11. Sub 2:49 at MCM at the end of the month still looks very doable. Need to put in 3 more solid weeks of training. Looking forward to kicking until my shoes come off.
