Running at its purest. No registration fee, no bib #'s, no fanfare. Just fun. Kicked off my road to Boston 2012 training at the 8th Annual Boston Marathon New Year's Day Run organized by the craziest and most inspirational person that I know, Gary Allen . About 30 hardy souls braved the "frigid" New England morning to experience a must-do run. Trust me, it's nothing like Marathon Monday. It's even better! There appeared to be more cars on the roads this year, but it was still eerily quiet on most of the stretches. Road was very slick with a thin layer of ice for most of the run, but that just adds to the character of the course. Ran most of the run with Dima F, Jim G, Kevin T, Jesse, and Gary A. Other runners included Blaine M (and a bunch of his fellow Maine-iacs), Bash, Sully, Lauren, Reno, Erica, and Karen. Felt great throughout the run, but a little tired by the time we reached the right onto Hereford, left onto Boylston. Lead group dropped me with sub 6:30's with about 1.5 miles to go. Total mileage for the final week leading into Bermuda taper: 103. I think I'm ready to finally unleash the furious chicken.
