Notes
This. This is the reason why I run. For days like these that rejuvenate my love for running. Somewhere between Dover, Delaware and Ipswich, MA I lost my running mojo. I recently bailed after 2 miles of a planned 40 mile run (annual long run to my bro's place). I hadn't run in over two weeks since then and I had no desire to do anything but work, watch tv, and eat Cheetos. Then, out of the blue, I get a last minute entry into the very popular Stone Cat Trail Marathon and Ultra, put on by G.A.C., from Spartan Jim to run in honor of his friend Jeff Thomas. This race sold out 300+ spots in less than 3 hours. Now I know why. This was going to be my first trail marathon, so I had nothing to lose. Not even my running mojo. instead, I found the reasons why I started running in the first place: roots, rocks, and ramen noodle soup. Seeing a couple of familiar faces, including Wade, St. Hilaire, Carrol, Feinhaus, and Ringheiser made the experience even better. The course itself is relatively easy by trail racing standards, but still the damn hardest way to run 26.2. Man vs Nature. I was alone for most of the race, and I definitely entered a state of running zen at certain points on the course. I felt so at peace and the miles just melted away effortlessly. There were a few ups that forced me to walk, but not much else. It was smooth sailing for the most part. I think I finished in the top 15, but don't know for sure until after they manually tabulate and post the results. The post-race festivities and watching others finish the 26.2 and 50 was fun and inspiring. This is the reason why I love running. Thanks.
