Notes

Ran 5 K with William (8 years) in BOB jogging stroller (total about 90 lbs). We started in the pack and jogged the first quarter mile not bothering to pass anyone until we got to the open road where we picked up the pace a little. About a third of a mile in I took off my jacket and stowed it in the stroller. About a half mile in I couldn't find a place for the ipod (no music, just nike +) and dropped it. I had to go back 20 feet to get it. Two thirds in the long hill started and I settled into a comfortable pace. There wasn't much reason to over do it. I wanted to hit the gas at the top and go quickly on the second half of the course. Once we turned the corner on Perkins with a slight down hill I changed over to sub 7 minute mile pace and left the group I was running with and ran hard over the undulating but mostly downhill or flat course. I kept it the effort just below the red line so I could control the stroller. When we passed the water station I declined water and the guy told me I was in 6th. Not sure when we passed the guy for 5th. Finished strong and surged through the finish. William and I had lot's of conversation throughout the race. This isn't a Dad and Son PR. We ran a 22:32 in 2005 (http://www.coolrunning.com/results/05/ma/Jul10_TakeTh_set1.shtml) on a pancake flat course. Considering the restraint we showed at the begining getting around folks, the dropped ipod, pushing the stroller up the hills, and the fact that William more than twice as heavy this was easily a much better result and effort.
