The Tour de Cure!

Well, a few notes here...maybe I can update it later with more. First, they changed the course a bit from last year, so this one was a bit hillier than last year, and at some points were pretty brutal. I never left my saddle, but there were some folks walking their bikes up a couple hills.

Next, later in the ride (around miles 23-25) I ran into a few issues. I had my storage bag on the back of my bike under the seat (like always), and it fell off. It fell off and skid on my back tire and led me to swerve into the curb and wipeout. Fortunately, it was mostly grass, and just my hands got scraped a little on the sidewalk.

I reattached it, and pressed on, then it happened again shortly thereafter! This fall was thankfully on a hill, so I was using all my might just to go 6mph...so the spill was barely anything. After this, I took the bag and really cranked it down on my aero-bars to stabilize it a bit, and allow me to use my hands if it got loose. It is time to retire it...that bag is old (almost 30 years old!)...I will miss it though.

Notes: avg. cadence 70, calories 1987.

As for the event, a beautiful day, and a great time. The scenery was great, and it was challenging. The only drawbacks were that I was pretty much alone the whole time. Last year I was able to meet up with a guy that rode at a similar speed, and it made it a little more enjoyable, but it was still a great day! A new PR in funds raised though!

Congrats the race Joe. Don't know much about biking, But I'm sure two hours of cardio is quite a workout.

Congrats on a solid race Joe. Way to persevere through the hills and spills!
