Notes

Amazing run. I had to get my run finished early and didn't have time for a 3-hour long run, so just set out to run about 20 km or maybe 2 hours, hopefully at around 4:40/km depending how it came out. But being wet and cool and my legs quite fresh from the recent easy days nursing the sore leg, I was immediately moving at good pace. I did want my heart rate to be at least up in the high 130s and if possible for the run to have a decent training effect. A couple km into the run I was at 4:40/km and HR around 120!! After that it all just unfolded beyond my wildest expectations, going at around 4:20/km, often better, for much of the time, feeling easy and the legs moving well despite the couple of tender spots. And then I realized that I was on pace for an approximately 90 min half marathon, so should at least concentrate on finishing that. Had thought I'd do 6 laps of Komazawa park, but added one on. That allowed me to work out the place where the half marathon would come up, give or take 100 m. Finished still moving at a good pace and capable of keeping it up for much longer. Within a couple of minutes of finishing my heart rate was under 90. I wish I could bottle this one and just pop it out whenever I felt like it. I don't think I can go so far as to say that I could have just kept going and run a 3-hour marathon, but probably not that far off it. I do think that I need quite a few more training runs like this to toughen up my legs, but how to work them into the week is the hard part.
