Notes
Weather was pretty good but since most of the course is not shaded is was still quite warm. Miles 5-11 are on concrete Lake Shore Drive. It was frustrating that the mile markers were wrong the first three miles since I was trying to gauge my pace and looking for confirmation. Started with Marty and planned to try to get under 1:26. After 4 or 5 miles, I finally realized the pace was closer to 6:45-6:50. The combination of factors (heat, sun, not knowing my early pace, concrete) led me to believe 1:26 would be quite difficult and unlikely and I became satisfied just staying with Marty who wanted to run under 1:30. We slowed miles 7-10 when Marty had a side stitch and I did not feel a need to push it in the middle of the race in the sun on miles of concrete. Pushed a bit harder the last couple miles. It's still a PR by 20 seconds or so or I can call it a marathon pace run.
Afterwards I felt pretty beat up from the concrete, pretty exhausted even though I probably could have gone harder, and hamstrings were tired - a bit sore and tight.
