Second Overall!
Kind of a weird race. Went out with the lead pack at a fairly slow pace. We were all looking at each other wondering who would make a move. About 3/4 of a mile in one guy goes, "Where are all the fast people?" We all kind of laughed. I decided at that point to take the lead even though I didn't really know where the course went. One guy came with me and we lead the race for 6 miles, putting a decent gap on the rest of the field. The way out the causeway was kind of eerie. The haze and humidity were thick and you couldn't see land on either side, just the lake surrounding the causeway, so it felt like you were just running out into the middle of nothing. By the time we turned around and headed back the haze was burning off so it was much less eerie. At the six mile mark the guy I was leading with made a move and I didn't cover it. So I ran the last three miles watching him pull away. I looked back once and no one was close so I just focused on finishing strong and weaving around the 5K walkers that were finishing up. Overall it was not a fast pace but pretty much what I expected given my current fitness.
