Had stomach flu 6/22-6/24. No GI issues during the race (thanks to Pepto), but think the stomach wasn't absorbing fluids & food very well. The Powerade on the course was way too sweet for my liking and it made me feel thirsty. Ended up relying on the GU chomps for the bulk of my electrolytes, but not sure they were cutting it. I felt thirsty the whole way, which I think can be attributed to the digestive system not being 100% and probably the Powerade being too sweet. My energy levels really dropped off after about 18 miles. Summary: I believe the "bonk" was due to a combo of the stomach flu and being a little under-trained due to the hamstring issues in July and August. Overall, I still can't think of a better way to spend a Sunday morning in October!
